Article 10 – February, 2023

Our group continues to meet and strive towards better and more footpaths for the Bellarine. Our team includes people of a wide range of ages and experiences. All have different reasons for wanting footpaths but the common thread is for better access to places via walking and for better health outcomes.

From VictoriaWalks website they list: The benefits of walking include:

  • improved public health and health cost savings
  • reduced traffic congestion, road provision costs, vehicle ownership, operating and parking costs.
  • reduced environmental pollution and traffic noise
  • improved physical and cognitive health for children and seniors in particular
  • increased social connection, and
  • benefits for business through increased retail sales and business agglomeration.

We believe one of the most important places for a footpath, at the moment, is a footpath to the Bendigo Bank in Drysdale. Our last remaining bank in Drysdale is almost impossible to walk to and as there is no public transport to help anyone get to the site, a footpath is so important.

Looking forward to continuing this advocacy and achieving a positive outcome together.
