Article 11 – March, 2023

Hello Fellow Thrillseekers,

I have lived in Drysdale for over two years, (no, not an old local) and I love it! I am within walking distance of everything I can think of needing. I no longer want to jump in the car and drive everywhere, I walk to shops, supermarket, post office, library, SpringDale Neighbourhood Centre, cafes, parks for the dogs, I even walk to the beach – if I am in search of a longer walk.

But since I’ve moved here I have fallen over on every unwelcome surface – tripping on broken bitumen, I have broken my glasses. Tripping on gravel, I have broken a tooth. Tripping on an uneven footpath, I received a black eye.

I have become an expert on places to walk, where there are no footpaths.

When I’m on my way to the shops, I am very aware of where the grass is likely to conceal a hidden hole, which creative driveways hide tripping hazards, where I need to join my fellow pedestrians on the road itself, hoping the next car isn’t going to be going too fast.

When I get to the supermarket, which is the safest way to negotiate the crossings, and wouldn’t it be wonderful to have some sort of pedestrian path through the carpark?

I can’t be the only one really hoping to see more footpaths in the centre of Drysdale. Parents with prams and pushers – dog walkers – older people with motorised scooters – young children learning to ride a bike.

I look forward to a network of footpaths that give us all a better life as we use well managed footpaths to get to destinations and to help us maintain good health.
